POWER RANGERS 2017: IT’S MORPHIN TIME

Published

on

Dean Israelite’s 2017 Power Rangers is beginning to pick up steam.  The new generation of rangers have been cast and announced.  Power Rangers is the story of a group of high-school kids, who are infused with unique superpowers and harness their abilities in order to save the world.

Director Dean Israelite sat down with IGN and spoke about the upcoming reboot.  Here’s what he had to say:

Dean Israelite: Sure. I read the script and was really surprised by it and thought there was a really cool, contemporary, mature but still playful, buoyant and fun take on the material, and was updated in a really interesting way. It had this wonderful character that’s essential to going on a fantastic adventure. I was instantly drawn to it. I remember it as a kid. I grew up with it in South Africa. When I opened the script I had no idea how it was going to be updated, and I was really impressed by it. So I put a really big presentation together, because I needed to win the job. There were a lot of guys going out for it and saw the potential in it, so I put a really big presentation together and was lucky enough to get the job. We’re in sort of a soft pre-production right now, doing a lot of design work and reimagining the world. It’s really cool and exciting.

MMPR was initially set to have relatively small $35mill budget.  But it would seem that Lionsgate and Saban Films has decided to up that number to $75mill according to Forbes.  Which in turn, could mean the difference of this movie being a straight to DVD film or a Box office blockbuster.  Power Rangers is set to hit theaters January 13, 2017

Kevin Smith Talks, The Last Shot Of ‘Episode IX’ – “It Will Melt Your Mind”

“When you see this it will melt your mind”

With 2019’s San Diego Comic-Con International coming to a close, many are trying to gather themselves and wrap their heads around the overload of information that spilled its way out of the fan favorite festival. With all the news that usually accompanies Comic-Con, fans can sift through and take away what means most to them. Well, per usual, Kevin Smith has dropped more than just his ‘Jay And Silent Bob: Reboot’ trailer. In a recent interview to come out of Comic-Con, Smith was asked about his visit to J.J. Abrams ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ set, and he did not disappoint:

“There was a scuttlebutt about a set there at Pinewood. A big set that they were like, ‘You have to see this, when you see this it will melt your mind.’ I was like ‘What was it?’ They’re like ‘Ask J.J.’ And so I asked J.J. I was like, ‘They keep telling me I should see the set.’ And he goes, ‘Don’t.’ I said ‘Why?’ He said, ‘It’s the last shot of the movie.’ So I was like, ‘Well, now I REALLY want to see it.’ He said, ‘You don’t want to be spoiled. You want to be in a theater when this happens, trust me.’ And then other people on the crew were like, ‘Bro, I wish I hadn’t seen it. I’m glad I did, but it will melt your mind.”

I’m not sure what level of “God-Like” will power one would have to have, in order to not take at least the smallest peek at what Abrams has in store for the conclusion for Episode IX. Never the less, Smith resisted and continued to explain his reasoning for not even taking a quick look:

“So for that reason alone, as inquisitive as I am, and curious as I am, I desperately wanted to go look. But when you talk to the magician and the magician’s like ‘Trust me on this one.’ Sometimes as human beings we want to know how they pull the rabbit out of the hat. But J.J.’s such a magical magician that I’m just like ‘You know what? OK, trick me.’ I’ll wait and get tricked. Even though I could’ve seen what it was, I was like ‘I’ll sit back. I’ll like your plan.’ He’s never let me down so far.”

‘The Rise of Skywalker’ is shrouded in secrecy. It sounds like we will still have to wait until December 20th to discover the mysteries that Abrams has in store for us. Check out the video below of Kevin Smith’s interview.

Daisy Ridley Promises Epic Lightsaber Duel In ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’

“We in this film actually have perhaps one of the most epic fights in Star Wars.”

The lightsaber duel is a staple of Star Wars lore. Every episode has featured some of the most iconic battles in cinematic history. Many fans were disappointed with the lack of saber action in Episode VII, even though the film primarily focused on Rey trying to discover her true place within the universe. ‘The Last Jedi’ attempted to give us more action but was over shadowed by Director Rian Johnson’s character arc choices. Going into ‘Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker’ J.J. Abrams knows what’s at stake, while bringing us the conclusion to one of the most beloved franchises in movie history. In a recent interview with Wired about Episode IX, Daisy Ridley shed some light on what we can expect in the final installment:

“The interesting thing about this film is that we concentrate more on the fact that [the lightsabers] are light,” Ridley told the publication, “Because the [old] lightsabers were so heavy, as Eunice [Huthart] said, who is our new stunt coordinator, that it was more like broadsword fighting, which isn’t technically what it’s supposed to be because lightsabers are supposed to be light, by nature.”

Since the “Skywalker” lightsaber that was a focal point in ‘Episode VII’ was destroyed during ‘The Last Jedi,’ it would appear that Rey will be getting herself a new “Lighter” saber. Daisy also, went on further to suggest we will be witnessing one of, if not the most epic Star Wars lightsaber duels of all time via Episode IX:

“So they actually made them lighter for us,”the actress continued “We in this film actually have perhaps one of the most epic fights in Star Wars.”

‘The Rise of Skywalker’ has a lot riding on it to properly conclude the “Skywalker Star Wars Saga.” J.J. Abrams is well aware of what’s at stake. One can only imagine that he will pull out all the stops to ensure one of the greatest endings in recent cinematic history.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters December 20, 2019
