‘The Adventures of Baron Munchausen’ is a comedy, adventure, fantasy film co-writen and directed by Terry Gilliam. It tells the story of an 18th Century nobleman, Baron Munchausen and his war time adventures against the Ottoman Empire. The film had a $46mill budget and was received well by critics. But failed to do well at the Box-office.
Baron Munchausen featured many stars. Some were relatively unknown at the time of the films release, but are entertainers we have grown to love over the decades since. Which included the likes of Uma Thurman, Robin Williams, John Neville and Oliver Reed.
So you may be asking the question, “Why would he bring this 1989 film up today?” the answer is simple. ‘The Adventures of Baron Munchausen‘ is one of my favorite movies of all time. As a kid, I loved this film for different reasons than I do today as an adult. It’s fascinating how you can watch the same film throughout your life and see it differently depending on where you are in your personal evolution.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to see this film you are completely missing out on one of the funniest most entertaining films ever made. With that being said. This was created back in 1988, so don’t expect Avengers level explosions and Zack Snyder CGI. Instead expect a film that you can just sit back, have a drink and watch some legendary actors entertain you for 2 hours.
R.I.P. Robin Williams (1951-2014) and John Neville (1925-2011)
