I’ve never played a villain before,” Banks tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue, adding that she’s looking forward to “world domination – and being unpredictable as a character.”
While many fans have been waiting to see what direction the Power Rangers will take as far as costume and design, we were hit with a first image of Banks as the main villain of the film.
Later, Banks spoke about some twists to come in the story line.
“It’s definitely a modern and edgy re-imagining of the original Rita Repulsa,” says Banks.
“We wanted to give her a backstory that connects her to the new Rangers,” she says.
Some have now speculated what that backstory/connection could be. One connection that was pretty obvious was the green and gold in the new costume design.
That’s right, green and gold is the color worn by Tommy Oliver aka The Green Ranger.
Rita was determined to destroy the only forces that could stand in her way. She succeeded in using her own sixth power coin to create an evil Green Ranger, who dealt Zordon and the Power Rangers serious damage before they were able to break her spell and bring Tommy back to the side of good.
Can’t wait to see the new costume design for the Rangers!

NEW ‘POWER RANGERS’ PROMO ART REVEALS BETTER LOOK AT POWER SUITS
New promo art has arrived giving us a better look at 2017’s ‘Power Rangers’ suits in action. With the movie set to hit theaters in March. Promotion of the upcoming him has ramped up tremendously. Actor Bryan Cranston who is playing Zordon, even went on the offensive while speaking to Huffington Post comparing Power Ranges to ‘The Dark Knight,’ stating:
This is as different a reimagining as the ‘Batman’ television series as it became the ‘Batman’ movie series. You can’t compare those two, and nor can you compare this movie version of the ‘Power Rangers’ to that television series. It’s unrecognizable for the most part. There are tenets of the folklore that you hold onto for sure, but the inspiration is different, and the sensibility of it, and the approach to the film making is completely different.
