In a recent interview with Variety after Disney’s D23 Expo, Mark Ruffalo dropped one more bomb on fans. But this bomb seemed to shatter all hopes and dreams of a new solo Hulk movie. Ruffalo in the past has not held back his feeling on the issue. Stating that Universal Pictures and Marvel has famously not getting along is the main reason for the lack of a solo film for the green anti-hero.
“I think they’ve been working on it,” Ruffalo said of the two studios. “Marvel and Universal famously don’t get along very well, and so that’s working against us, definitely. But I know for a fact that everyone is holding out hope that one day we can do it. But the nature of the relationship right now, it’s a little prohibitive. And I hope that that changes, that changes with regimes, it changes over the course of time. But right now it doesn’t look particularly promising.”
In his recent interview Ruffalo made sure that people understood:
“I wanna make just one thing perfectly clear today, a standalone Hulk movie will never happen.”
The reporter asks why the hulk actor thinks this will never happen, to which he replied:
“…. for some reason they don’t know how to play well with Marvel,” and “… because they don’t want to make money,” referring to Universal, who holds the rights to a Hulk standalone film.
Todd Phillips Says His ‘Joker’ Film Is Going To Make Fans Mad
“We constantly thought, ‘God, imagine if Joaquin actually does this.”
Director Todd Phillips’ ‘Joker’ film, starring Joaquin Phoenix, is finally starting to take shape… Or is it? Fans have been trying to piece together what we can expect from this live action origin story about the “Clown Prince of Gotham.” The trailer that dropped a couple months ago, gave us some insight as to the tone of the upcoming DC film. But, in a recent interview with Empire, Phillips told us that we can forget trying to find a comic comparison to his film:
“We didn’t follow anything from the comic books, which people are gonna be mad about. We just wrote our own version of where a guy like Joker might come from. That’s what was interesting to me. We’re not even doing Joker, but the story of becoming Joker. It’s about this man.”
Phillips is already preparing for fan backlash due to the lack of continuity with the DC Comic Universe. The fortunate thing for the Director, is that there has never been a definitive back story for Gotham’s most feared villain. The closest story comes via a 1988 one shot comic titled, ‘Batman: The Killing Joke.’
The man who will become the Joker is an unnamed engineer who quits his job at a chemical company to become a stand-up comedian, only to fail miserably. Desperate to support his pregnant wife Jeannie, he agrees to guide two criminals through the chemical plant where he previously worked so that they can rob the playing card company next to it. During the planning, the police inform him that his wife has died in a household accident. Grief-stricken, the engineer tries to withdraw from the plan, but the criminals strong-arm him into keeping his commitment to them.
At the plant, the criminals make him don a special mask to become the infamous Red Hood. As previously told to the engineer by the criminals, they use this disguise to implicate any accomplice as the mastermind and to divert attention away from themselves. Once inside, they encounter security personnel, a shootout ensues, and the two criminals are killed. The engineer is confronted by Batman, who is investigating the disturbance.
Terrified, the engineer jumps into the chemical plant’s waste pound lock to escape Batman and is swept through a pipe leading to the outside. Once outside, he discovers to his horror that the chemicals have permanently bleached his skin chalk-white, stained his lips ruby-red and dyed his hair bright green. The engineer’s disfigurement, compounded with the loss of his family, drives him completely insane and marks the birth of the Joker. -Wikipedia
Based on the recent trailer, it appears Phillips will use the “Failed stand up comedian” approach, but not much after that. Only time will tell how ‘Joker’ will turn out. But, one could only imagine, there must be a high level of confidence in this relatively low budget project, knowing how scrutinizing fans can be about their beloved comic characters. Phillips wrote this film with Joaquin Phoenix in mind from the start:
“I think he’s the greatest actor,” the director said. “We had a photo of him above our computer while we were writing. We constantly thought, ‘God, imagine if Joaquin actually does this.”

E3: ‘Avengers’ Game Makes Its Highly Anticipated Debut | Official Trailer
The Highly anticipated trailer for the ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ game made its debut at E3 conference in LA on Monday. The trailer features Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, the Hulk and Black Widow (but no Hawkeye) facing off against a new threat in San Francisco.
‘Marvel’s Avengers’ game will be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia and PC on May 15, 2020.
‘Avengers: Endgame’ Almost Gave Us Thor Vs. Thor
The Russo Brothers were faced with one of the hardest challenges in movie directing history, pulling off a satisfying ending to one of the longest running franchises in cinema. While ‘Avengers: Endgame’ offered up many surprises, some expected, others not. One fan-favorite moment in the film was watching Captain America square off against his younger self, inside Avengers Tower.
The Russo Brothers had planned for another of our heroes to battle a younger version of themselves.. While in Asgard, there was a story board that suggested Thor face the younger version of himself. We all know this would have for sure brought the laughs and fireworks. The Russo’s decided Thors arc would be better suited by having an emotional interaction with his mother.
Anthony Russo says, “it overly complicated (the plot).”
“I think there, we also deferred to the storyline between Thor and his mother. (It) was so resonant, that we really wanted to run… That was really more a part of Thor’s journey and repair than confronting his former self. So that’s really what happened there, why we went with that.”
Anthony Russo went on the say, they all liked the idea of, “Cap vs Cap better.” It sounds like they felt it more important to repair Thor’s onset depression, that continued over from ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ into Endgame. Though it would have been cool to see the “Lebowski God of Thunder” face off against his more.. “Fit” self. It definitely made more sense to have Thor return to his confident self, before going into the final battle against Thanos.
“Thor had been on a mission of vengeance in the last movie, so we couldn’t put him on that. What is the end result of a guy who has lost so much and just blatantly failed? We wondered, ‘Okay, well, what if he does become a sort of depressive alcoholic?’ And the weight gain was just part and parcel of that state of mind.” – Christopher Markus to IndieWire
“We leave him in that state at the end of the movie. Even though he’s emotionally resolved. We fix his problem, and it’s not his weight. I know some people are sensitive about some of the humor that comes from it, which I understand. But our issue that we wanted him to deal with was his emotional state that his mom addresses. And I think he is the ideal Thor at the end of the movie, and he’s carrying some weight.” – Christopher Markus to IndieWire
