It would appear that the DCEU has finally cast it’s SHAZAM! Last year the announcement was made that an upcoming ‘Shazam’ movie would feature the hero squaring off against Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam. Later it was decided that the film would be split in two, with each getting their own film and Black Adam being more of an anti-hero than a villain.
The rumor mill had actors such as Armie Hammer and even John Cena pegged to play the character. But, it would appear that has all been laid to rest. Zachary Levi [Thor: The Dark World] has been cast to play the powerful hero. New Line and DC Entertainment are set to produce the film, with David F. Sandberg directing. The film follows a boy named Billy Batson who can transform into an adult superhero by uttering the magic word “Shazam!” The name is an acronym of the ancient gods and historical figures Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury, from whom Batson derives his heroic attributes from when in adult form.

[kb_author]Shazam is a name that has been used by Captain Marvel and other members of the Marvel Family. The name originally belonged to an ancient wizard, who lived in the Rock of Eternity and guarded the Seven Deadly Sins. This wizard bestowed powers on the child Billy Batson. Batson simply had to speak the wizard’s name, and he would transform into the adult Captain Marvel. Later on, Billy Batson began using the name Shazam as his alias instead of Captain Marvel.[/kb_author]
