The “Blade Universe” Could Return To The MCU…?

Published

on

The rumor mill has been up and down about the return of Marvel’s most popular vampire hunter, Blade. Wesley Snipes over the years has expressed interest in returning to the property but A lot has changed in the world of comic book film, since the release of ‘Blade’ back in 1998. The Blade trilogy has grossed over $415 mil world wide. Which by modern day standards amounts to about an opening weekend average per film. With that being said, the day walker has been widely regarded as a necessary and missing piece to the MCU.

With Marvel’s Phase 4 shortly underway, we know that there will be room for other projects to work their way into the new direction of Marvel. Well, it would appear that fans of the franchise just might get their wish! In a recent interview with Vice, Snipes faned the flames for the return of the Day Walker:

“There are a lot of conversations going around right now and we’re very blessed to have the enthusiasm and interest in something coming from that world again. We’ve created two projects that fit perfectly into this world and, when people see them, I think they’re only going to have a problem with deciding which one they love the most.”

Now, a conversation with Marvel execs doesn’t really mean a whole lot. I’m sure ideas are tossed their way on a daily basis. But, Snipes went on further to explain how hopeful he is for the return of Blade:

“All the main execs [at Marvel] and my team, we’ve been discussing for the past two years. Everyone’s enthusiastic about it, everybody gets it. But they got a business to run and they gotta square the things that they gotta figure out before they can get to it, I guess. In the meantime, we got a business to run and our own slate of things to do so…But the next time you see something in [the Blade universe], mark my words: what we did before is child’s play compared to what we can do now.”

Though exciting to hear, it sounds like even Snipes is skeptical about his chances of returning to the big screen as the vampire killer. Considering two years of conversation hasn’t amounted to much, it’s still exciting to hear, that if Blade returns, we will see a “Day Walker” the likes of which has never been seen!

‘Joker’ movie just dropped six new short clips, teasing the upcoming trailer this Wednesday. Despite Director Todd Phillips claiming the film won’t follow any “Cannon” comic book adaptation. Fans are still clinging to hope that Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix will do this original adaptation and character justice. Early reports suggest Phoenix could possibly earn himself an Oscar nomination for ‘Joker.’ While advanced screenings at the Toronto International Film Festival are backing up these claims:

“First of all it’s terrific. So it should play on our largest stage. But it’s a really original take on comic book movies and on the Joker character in particular. It’s not based on an existing story, it has one of the greatest actors in modern cinema, Joaquin Phoenix, in the lead, and Robert De Niro is in it as well, one of the best actors that has ever lived.”                  – Cameron Bailey

“I’m going to continue playing Spider-Man and having the time of my life”

In a recent interview at Disney’s D23 Expo, Tom Holland and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige addressed the latest news about Spider-Man’s departure from the MCU.

“Basically, we’ve made five great movies,” Holland said in a chat with Entertainment Weekly. “It’s been five amazing years. I’ve had the time of my life. Who knows what the future holds? But all I know is that I’m going to continue playing Spider-Man and having the time of my life. It’s going to be so fun, however we choose to do it.”

Holland went on to add, “The future for Spider-Man will be different, but it will be equally as awesome and amazing, and we’ll find new ways to make it even cooler.”

Feige added to Holland’s statements, saying that he was “feeling about Spider-Man gratitude and joy.”

“We got to make five films within the MCU with Spider-Man: two standalone films and three with the Avengers. It was a dream that I never thought would happen. It was never meant to last forever. We knew there was a finite amount of time that we’d be able to do this, and we told the story we wanted to tell, and I’ll always be thankful for that.”
